Candidate Endorsement
1
The Process
Once the questionnaire responses have been reviewed and scored, the candidate whose positions most strongly align with the current and future needs of Florida A&M University will be identified.
The evaluation results, scoring framework, and conclusions will be shared broadly and transparently with alumni, students, and stakeholders. Based on this evaluation, an endorsement may be issued.
2
What Endorsement Means
An endorsement represents a formal and public statement that a candidate’s positions, priorities, and demonstrated commitment align with the best interests of Florida A&M University.
It means:
-
The candidate has demonstrated clear support for the university’s stability, growth, and mission
-
The candidate understands the importance of the institution to the state and its communities
-
The candidate’s leadership is expected to positively impact the university’s future
An endorsement also serves as a signal to alumni, students, supporters, and stakeholders regarding which candidate has demonstrated the strongest alignment with alumni priorities for the institution.
3
What Endorsement Does Not Mean
It is equally important to clarify what an endorsement does not represent:
-
It is not a political action committee (PAC), and it does not solicit or manage political contributions
-
It does not require or expect any financial contribution from alumni or supporters
-
It does not suggest that the endorsed candidate is the best candidate on all issues affecting the entire state
-
It does not represent support for any political party or any other candidates on the ballot
-
It does not limit individual alumni from making their own independent voting decisions
This endorsement is focused solely on identifying the candidate whose leadership will best support and protect Florida A&M University.
4
Why Endorsement Matters
The Governor’s office has direct authority over decisions that shape the future of public universities. These include:
-
Appointment of university Boards of Trustees
-
Appointment of members of the Florida Board of Governors
-
Approval and influence over state funding
-
System-wide higher education priorities
An organized and unified endorsement helps ensure that the interests of Florida A&M University are clearly represented and understood.
It strengthens the institution’s voice and signals that its alumni and supporters are engaged, informed, and prepared to advocate for its future.

This effort is about stewardship. It is about protecting what has been built and ensuring continued growth and opportunity for future generations.
